I’m Catching the Bug Again!

Finally! Geesh!

Took long enough for me to re-catch that writing bug. It’s been roughly 3-4 months since I did any serious writing on my murder mystery novel. I hate that. I’ve been asked how that is going and it is embarrassing to say that I haven’t been writing. But, at least I was honest with them … and myself.

The other day, I started revisiting AbsoluteWrite.com – a great forum for writers of all genres and skill levels. You can learn so much from your peers and literary agents.  Last night, I was in the Mystery/Thriller/Suspense sub-forum and responded to a thread where the author had a very similar plot device to mine. That is great! At least I know my idea is not way off in left field.

What is even better is that that thread sparked an idea for one of my characters. Which is a good thing. Because I created a character and kind of just threw him into the story without any real plausible way he got there. Plus, it was just too “Castle“-ish. I’m not going to explain too much there least I give away a part of my story LOL.

Anyways, I opened my Notepad file where I type in snippets of odd thoughts to remember and did a little Q&A to help me work out this character’s reason for being. And it also rearranged a bit of which character did what in my story. But I’m a little worried that the new direction will be a touch cliche and that I should either: a) go back to the original way, or b) do a little mix between the two. *rubs chin thoughtfully* Hmmm. =)

So – since I don’t have any holiday plans this weekend, I think I will be WRITING! Wooohooo! =D

PhoenixRisingHits – Update

I’m so excited! I am almost done with creating Phoenix Rising Hits!

Remaining on my to-do list is: finish creating some affiliate promotional splash pages, test the newsletter/email function, ask a few great folks to be test members and make sure there are no design odds n ends that I may have missed.

I really need to get it all ready by no later than the 10th because I have the start page for ThumbVu from December 11th through the 18th! Yay! =)

I really really hope business owners across the web will find Phoenix Rising Hits a comfortable, professional place to drive traffic to their business websites and blogs, and to increase their opt-in lists.

Excuse the dust while I try on new themes and freshen up the place.

Thank you for  your patience! =)

EDITED:  Ok – all updated. Hopefully, there aren’t any little problems I may have missed.

Sad News, Needing to Vent

I was all prepared to create an entirely different video today, but before I could turn on the camera, I got a call from my Dad with sad news about my Grandmother. The video explains all.

Back home, my house and my grandparents house were really near each other … just a major street separated our two neighborhoods. Grandpa died in 1985, age 75, due to complications of diabetes. I have fond memories of Grandma’s lemon squares, holiday dinners, sleeping over often, a money tree planted along the side of the house (silverish ‘leaves’), and bleeding heart plants in the back yard. She took me to my first concert ever at age 14 – The Monkees and Weird Al opened for them. She, Dad and I went to Ireland a year after Grandpa died and met with Grandpa’s first cousin, so is also now gone. And the last time I saw her was when she and Dad drive with me from Illinois to Arizona to get me settled into my new life at Arizona State University. She loves butterflies. She even made me a quilt with a matching pillow that has butterflies painted on some of the large squares.

It’s been tearing me up inside for years now on how I haven’t been able to afford to see her. I miss her terribly. There’s more I could write here, but … at the same time, I’m at a loss for words.

Now, I wanted to reiterate that, although I mention folks joining my new traffic exchange when it launches soon (Phoenix Rising Hits), I don’t mean it as a charity by any means. Like I said in the video, I could do with some cheer.  The purpose of Phoenix Rising Hits is to provide a clean, clutter-free environment for business owners to advertise their products and services to the public and to other businesses.

Passion and Fears in Business

I am truly sorry that I did not advertise the conference that happened tonight, as there was a very special guest speaker for Randy Ritter’s “Road to Success” conference.

Lt. Col. Robert “Waldo” Waldman – motivational speaker and best selling author.

http://yourwingman.com  – - – -  http://neverflysolo.com

It was a real joy to listen to him. He was not pretentious, he interacted with individual attendees as if we were all friends and acquaintances … and not strangers.

And while he used a lot of pilot speak (wingman, throttle, etc), he used them in ways that us non-military folks could easily understand.

He covered a few topic, but they were all connected with each other. His basic message was to find something passionate to do (whether in business or personal life). Take action – and be progressive in your actions.

Now we all have fears. In the business world, one of the biggest ones is the fear of failure. This is common! But it doesn’t have to cripple us.

By being prepared, we can learn the skills sets we need to overcome rejections, mistakes, and other obstacles that try to prevent us from succeeding. Being prepared can be being proficient in the tools we online marketers use, such as traffic exchanges, autoresponders, splash page builders, and more.

Another great way to overcome our fears is to have a “wingman”, or an accountability partner. This person (or persons) is someone who will give you constructive criticism. They need to tell you what you NEED to know, not what you want to know. They can see your blind spots and weaknesses. These are the people you go to to ask for help.

In conjunction with that – network! Join a mastermind group – a group of folks with similar goals and passions, but with differing skill sets than yours. You challenge each other and help each other.

Volunteering is another great way to overcome fears and to network. Build relationships. But don’t forget to continuously nurture those relationships since you will never know when you will need to call on them for help.

And lastly – and yes, I know it’s a plug – come and join us at TELive every day. We are all a bunch of like-minded individuals … small business owners who want to help each other succeed. We encourage folks to get on the microphone (with or without a camera is fine). Many of us are still shy, but by practicing in a room of friends, there is no pressure … there is no judgements … there is no bias.

So come join us, even if you don’t get on the mic or cam! It’s free to join … no need to create an account … but we do ask if you use  your real name and not a “screen name”. Transparency + Networking = More success for you and your business – no matter your niche!

TrafficExchangeLive.com (aka TELive Room)

Monday – Fridays at 4:00 PM ET (1:00 PM PT)

Next Tuesday, December 6 at 6:00 PM ET in the TELive room, Randy Ritter will host David Martin. He has spoken with us recently and we have nothing but rave reviews. If you have an online business, you need to join us! Don’t miss out on the gold nuggets this gentleman passes out!
