EYRE Family Genealogy ResourceMy last name is Eyre (as if you haven't guessed by now) and that last name is pretty rare in the United States. And while I am having trouble doing my own family's genealogy, I have found a lot of resources and websites concerning the last name of Eyre. There are some famous Eyres and many successful Eyres also. EYREs are on the web - check them out! I created this section in the hopes it could be a hub for all those researching the surname EYRE. Even if you are not a part of my branch of EYRE family tree, hopefully with the resources I found and collected here, you can find your branch. Spelling variations of this family name typically include: Eyre, Eyer, Eyers, Eyres, Eayre, Ayer, Heyer, Ayr, Air, Aires, Hyer, Hayer, Hoyer and many more. Eyre was first found in Derbyshire, where the ancestral home of the main branch of the Eyre family is thought to be located. Some of the first settlers of this family name or some of its variants were: Eleazer Eyre, who brought his family to New Hampshire in 1620; John Ayer, who arrived in Massachusetts in 1640; Temperance Hyer, who came to Virginia in 1650. I am a Genealogy Volunteer I took on two volunteer projects during the month of January 2008 that will be on-going. I have received free help from several kind souls over the past few months. Since I am not able to reciprocate similar help, I am paying it forward by helping out other genealogy sites by transcribing (data entry) and working on web sites. First is the Italian Genealogy Group. Don't let the name fool you - they have been assembling a massive database of marriage, death, military and other records. I am one of MANY volunteers who are transcribing those records and they upload it to their database on the website. It is through this website that I found the marriage certificate number for my great-grandparents. The second is the Rootweb Ireland Genealogy Project Archives. Currently, I am the file manager for County Kilkenny - which is the county where my Eyre (Eayre) and Bradley families lived. As information comes in, we upload cemetery records, church records, and so much more to each county's section of the website. UPDATES I will list updates to the EYRE genealogy section as I add them, that way you know how recent resources are and such. Most of these resources are from third-party sources, so their website may change without notice. I will try to stay ontop on the changes, but I may miss a few from time to time. December 24, 2007:
